Bonfire Night 2026: Family Fireworks in Herts & London

Fireworks are magical at any age, but with small children, the difference between a brilliant night and a meltdown is often in the planning. Here are the best family firework displays across London and Hertfordshire for Bonfire weekend, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2026, plus a few tips to keep it fun rather than frightening.

Alexandra Palace Fireworks and Drone Festival: Family Fun Day, Sunday 8 November

Ally Pally has changed its format this year, and it’s great news for families. Sunday is a brand-new Family Fun Day, with an earlier 6pm display, reduced capacity for more room to roam, and under-10s going free with Early Bird tickets. There’s marshmallow toasting and a Junior Jungle kids’ rave too. The earlier display means you can be home for a sensible bedtime, and the smaller crowd makes it far easier with a buggy. Saturday 7 November is the later, livelier night. Book tickets.

St Albans Fireworks Spectacular, Saturday 7 November

Verulamium Park hosts a big family event with fireworks, food and fun, with St Albans Cathedral as a backdrop. It opens from 6pm, so arrive early to get a good spot near the front. More details.

Cassiobury Park, Watford (date to be confirmed)

Watford’s display is one of Hertfordshire’s biggest free fireworks events, and last year it included food stalls and children’s funfair rides. The 2026 date hasn’t been announced yet, so keep an eye on Watford Borough Council’s website.

Tips for fireworks with young children

Pack ear defenders for babies and toddlers. Loud bangs are the number one cause of tears.
Choose an earlier display where you can, and leave five minutes before the finale to beat the crowds.
Bring glow sticks instead of sparklers. Sparklers are banned at some events, so check before you go.
Wrap up warmer than you think you need to, with hats, gloves and a flask of hot chocolate.
Agree a meeting point with older children in case you get separated.
Settle pets indoors with the curtains drawn and some background noise before you head out.
